The Understudy prioritizes learning — learning about what makes great drinks, that is. Not only do we have a vast assortment of wines, craft beer and cocktails, but we know what we’re talking about when we recommend a drink based on your tastes. Our mixologists and bartenders can tell you all about a drink you’re interested in, or suggest one that would go well with your meal. Our knowledge of all the drinks we serve is due, in part, to the relationships we have with distillers. By working closely with the distillers we purchase from, we are able to get a better understanding of the ingredients, process and overall history of the drinks we offer. Plus, if you’d like to see a particular liquor on our shelves, chances are we can talk to our partners at various distilleries and get some in stock.

Historically, an understudy is a backup theater actor who learns the lines of a main actor incase they are unable to perform for any reason. Here at The Understudy, we’ve perfected the arts of bartending and mixology so that we can takeover the lead role of sit-down cocktail bar in Columbia, Missouri.
